FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • WHAT IS COACHING?
The technical definition of coaching provided by the International Coaching Federation is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential”. As your coach, I guide the process of creating your future self. I empower you to live your best life, one choice at a time.
  • HOW DOES COACHING WORK?
The coaching process is structured around a scheduled series of compelling conversations. It is a dialogue that engages the curiosity and compassion of both client and coach in the cocreation of change. I share practical tools from my unique, extensive and eclectic toolkit. Growth is supported by prep forms designed to cultivate both granular and expanded awareness. The client achieves desired coaching outcomes by taking daily action.
  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS? HOW WILL I KNOW THAT COACHING IS WORKING?
You can expect immediate progress. Coaching with me will shift your awareness to the present moment, empowering you to choose different thoughts and new behaviours from the outset. Know too that progress is not linear. Along the way you will encounter resistance. Navigating those ebbs and flows is an important part of transformation, key to achieving lasting results that will exceed your expectations.
  • WILL I ENJOY COACHING?
Yes, you will! Enjoyment is not optional. Coaching is a significant relationship built on mutual respect. As your coach, I am your ally, invested in your success and happiness, and co-creator of your best self, living your best life. If you don’t look forward to coaching sessions it is time to find another coach.
  • IS THERE COACHING HOMEWORK? WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T DO IT?
It is impossible not to do your homework. By living your life, noticing, showing up for coaching, and by engaging in reflection, you are developing. You will experiment and make conscious choices on a daily basis. Sometimes we agree specific homework assignments. Completion is up to you: your accountability is to yourself. A choice not to complete homework also provides a lesson; either way you learn. In essence, your lifework is your coaching homework.
  • IS COACHING CONFIDENTIAL?
Be assured that coaching is totally confidential. As an executive and life coach and chartered psychologist, I abide by the professional code of ethics of both the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and the British Psychological Society.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COACHING?
Myriad benefits include the ability to leverage your time and talent, clarity of purpose, self-confidence, vitality, the elimination of negativity, great habits, perspective and awareness. You will learn tools and techniques for wellbeing to share with others. You will acquire skills in self-coaching, and in coaching other people. Through better relationships and courageous conversation, you will find happiness; that elusive happiness that comes from inside you, and does not depend on your circumstances. On the route to discovering and appreciating your best self, there are simply too many benefits to list here. Read what clients say.
  • IS COACHING EXPENSIVE? CAN I AFFORD IT?
Investment in coaching is a discretionary spend. Coaching outcomes, timescale, costs and payment terms are agreed at the outset. In allocating a budget for coaching, it is important that you pay only what you can afford without suffering. Coaching can help you to identify budgetary adjustments that will save you money. For business owners, the coaching process will support increased revenue and profitability. If you really want to work with me, we will find a way. I also offer a limited number of pro-bono coaching places, allocated by competitive application.
  • WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A COACHING SESSION?
A cancellation policy is agreed at the outset. It is almost never applied. In a relationship based on mutual respect it is usually possible to accommodate the occasional unexpected event.
  • WHAT IS A COACHING DISCOVERY CALL?
The discovery call is a two-way process. The potential client and the coach explore what coaching outcomes are achievable and if they want to work together.
  • HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A COACHING DISCOVERY CALL?
Be clear about your needs and expectations of coaching. Bring an open-mind and curiosity. Ask questions. Ask more questions. Trust your intuition.
  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT OF A COACHING DISCOVERY CALL?
Expect an intellectually and emotionally engaging conversation. It is a joint exploration, not a formulaic scripted call. A meaningful discovery call will resonate with you long afterwards. When it does, you have found the coach for you.
